SASQUATCH LAUNCHES WIDMER BROTHERS BREWING MULTI-MEDIA CAMPAIGN
Today marks the first foray into television advertising for Portland, Oregon based craft brewer Widmer Brothers Brewing. A departure from past radio-centric advertising campaigns, the new effort from Sasquatch Advertising was designed to emphasize the distinctive look, and taste, of Widmer Brothers signature beverage, Hefeweizen.
“Our story is such a visual one, we challenged our ad agency to find a compelling way to spread the word about Widmer Hefeweizen, keying off our new theme: Widmer Hefeweizen. The cloudy beer with the surprisingly sunny taste.”
The television commercials feature a large glass of beer, with its signature lemon wedge, in the foreground. In each spot, someone in the background walks behind the glass, and emerges on the other side significantly changed. The glass of beer is then lifted by an unseen beer drinker, and the source of the humorous transformation is revealed. Among the various situations are a naked marathon and a gladiator school.
Spots begin airing May 13 on ESPN 2, Spike, Speed, USA and MSNBC in select West Coast markets.
Widmer also makes use of a micro website which asks beer drinkers, “How do you lemon your Widmer?” Anyone of legal drinking age is invited to submit fun, unusual ways to add a lemon to their favorite glass of beer, presumably Widmer Hefeweizen.
Sasquatch Advertising partnered with Food Chain Films and director Charles Wittenmeier to produce the television campaign, and worked with e-ROI to create the “How to Lemon Your Widmer” micro site.
